Delivery Site Requirements
The location where your shipping container will be placed, as well as the area where our delivery vehicle operates, must be firm, stable, and as level as possible. A slight slope of up to 5 degrees is generally acceptable.
For safety reasons, our HIAB delivery vehicles cannot safely operate on unstable or steeply sloping ground. If the delivery site presents a risk to our personnel or equipment, the driver may be unable to complete the delivery until suitable access has been provided.
Suitable Access Surfaces
The following surfaces are recommended for container deliveries:
- Concrete
- Asphalt or tarmac
- Paved roads and hard-standing areas
We regularly deliver to rural and agricultural properties; however, the access route should be suitable for heavy vehicles and preferably connected by a maintained two-lane road.
The following surfaces are generally unsuitable:
- Loose soil or gravel
- Deep sand
- Mud or waterlogged ground
- Soft grass
- Uneven or unstable terrain
Before delivery, please ensure the site is clear of obstacles including rocks, building materials, tree stumps, vehicles, or any objects that could obstruct the delivery vehicle or damage equipment.
Proper Container Support
For maximum structural integrity, your shipping container should be supported evenly on its four corner castings.
An uneven foundation may cause the container frame to twist, making the doors difficult to open or close properly.
Suitable support materials include:
- Concrete paving slabs
- Hardwood timber blocks
- Railway sleepers
All supports should be level and securely positioned before delivery.
Height and Width Clearance
Our delivery vehicles require a minimum clearance of 14 feet (4.3 metres) in both height and width.
During unloading, the HIAB crane raises the container before lowering it into position, so additional overhead clearance is essential.
Please ensure the delivery route and placement area are free from obstacles such as:
- Overhanging tree branches
- Power or telephone lines
- Gates and entrance arches
- Building eaves
- Fences
- Low roofs or carports
- Any other overhead obstructions
For added safety, we recommend having two people on-site during delivery to help guide the driver and monitor surrounding obstacles while the container is being positioned.
Forklift Delivery Service
If access to your property is limited or unsuitable for a HIAB crane truck, please inform us before your delivery date.
MT Containers Limited can arrange a forklift-assisted delivery where appropriate, allowing containers to be positioned in tighter or more challenging locations.
Please note that forklift deliveries are subject to additional transportation and equipment charges.
Minimum Delivery Space
To unload your container safely, our delivery vehicles require adequate straight-line access:
- 10FT Container: Minimum 40 feet (12 metres) of clear access
- 20FT Container: Minimum 60 feet (18 metres) of clear access
- 40FT Container: Minimum 100 feet (30 metres) of clear access
